  1. Although I still don't comprehend the whole concept, it appears that adding those magnets deep inside the rotor, and fancy footwork from the controller, allow the motor to rev much higher, retain efficiency at a wide range of RPM's, and still produce good power, thus eliminating the need for a physical "transmission" to keep the motor in a "happy" RPM zone. Does that make any sense?

  2. Can't rely on scarce metals and there 's no need. A vehicle should be able to reverse engineer "regenerative braking" while idling. It can accelerate an extra tire inside the frame against resistance to restore charge to battery, or just spin it to do same. Efficiency in battery charge terms is not major obstacle at all, never mind requiring scarce metals.
