The Forgotten Motorcycle that made Honda

The early Honda Dreams were the first foray for the manufacturer into overhead cam engines. They would pave the way for Honda’s production street bikes going forward, even influencing the design for the CB750. This is the story of those forgotten motorcycles

  1. I was in 6th grade and my mom and dad bought me a hand 65 cc street bike. I fell in love with that bike and the Honda Trail 90's. they had the best sound. the first bike I bought was a CB360T . I drove the hell out of that bike. from Portland to Canada all over the cascades Mountains. did not care for dirt bike riding much preferred street riding.

  2. Back in the spring of 1991, when I was 20, I had put together an old 150cc Honda CA95 Benly. It was rusted in some places, rattled like a snake, and the suspension was looser than Britney Spears. But the twin hemi engine started so easily, barely a half stroke on the kick start in slow mo set it purrring "like a Dream". It was dangerous to ride but also way fun. Those were some good times!

  3. The motorcycle industry has two big problems (1) they refuse to think out of the box. Everything has a tubular frame, tele forks, chain drive and no ability for the rider to stop without putting his feet down.
    (2) governments especially in Europe making it ever more difficult to get into biking in the first place. UK is going its level best to kill anything bigger than a 25bhp 250.
    We need bikes like the Britten 1000 in smaller less costly format. We need the Hossack front fork. It’s designed for easy manufacturing easy maintenance and it’s adjustable. But no, we get the same old tele forks (yawn).

  4. When I was 15, I bought a black Honda 50SS. I was nearly killed every day, but it gave me freedom to travel locally. I own 6 Kaws at the moment, but my riding started 60 years ago with a little Honda.

  5. Great bike, the DREAM; but ugly. We would strip & change out all those ugly "Dream" fenders, tank, headset, & exhaust system to where the bike would look more like a BSA or a TR. 🎉

  6. As a teen in the sixties I loved motorcycles, but my folks would not hear of it, no way, no how, period. I did borrow all my friends cycles any chance I had and they were mostly 50s and 90s. One friend had a 150 Dream and latter a 160 Scrambler. Those seemed like big bikes to a 16 year old, but finally since I was able to get my license and a car, the bike fever subsided. On a trip to a near by town I met a new friend with a 305 and he sent me to the store on his bike to get some beer (I had a legal, but misprinted ID that said I was 21). OMG, that thing could pull a wheelie in 2nd gear. Still could never get the coins to afford a bike of my own but I knew I loved the 305. Later in life, like 20 years later, I bought a used CX 500, Silver Wing. Only had 900 miles on it but had been in a garage for 6 years. I was very disappointed. The 500 was powerful enough but the weight took all the fun out of it. When I sold it it only had maybe 3000 miles on it in 1998. I'm 75 now and would still buy a 305 Scrambler, or something comparable it it exists today.
